Please consult this file for important information on using this CD-ROM. ** NOTE-- THIS CD-ROM CONTAINS AUDIO AND VIDEO CLIPS AND REQUIRES QUICKTIME ** FOR WINDOWS. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW TO INSTALL IT! Section A: Requirements for using this CD-ROM This CD-ROM requires Microsoft Windows running on an IBM-compatible 486 or Pentium computer. This CD-ROM also requires QuickTime for Windows version 2.0. If you do not have this version of QuickTime, you can install it from this CD-ROM. To install QuickTime for Windows version 2.0, follow these steps: 1. In the Program Manager Window, choose Run from the File menu. 2. Type :\QTW20\SETUP.EXE 3. Follow the instructions on your screen. Although not required, it is recommended that you use this CD-ROM on a computer with sound output capability. Section B: Using this CD-ROM To view the presentation, run the executable file titled seminar.exe. Clicking the Altera Chip on the main menu will give you the proper viewing order. Then, click on any other chip to enter that section. During the main body of the presentation, you have the choice of using manual or autoplay modes. Each section starts in the autoplay mode. In autoplay, the center button will appear as two vertical lines. The screen will advance on it's own in this mode. While in the manual mode, the center button will apprear as an arrow. In this mode each screen must be advanced manually using the left and right buttons. In addition to the controls that appear in the control strip at the bottom of the screen, you can return to the main menu by clicking on the Altera logo at any time. The exit button will exit you from the program. Section C: Modifying the performance of this CD-ROM We recommend that you view this CD-ROM in 16-bit color if your computer is equipped with robust video capability and/or more than 8 MB of RAM. Users with computers that are not so equipped should view this CD-ROM in 8-bit color. If you choose to view the introduction, you will be given the opportunity to indicate which computer platform (486 or Pentium) you are using. If you experience performance difficulties after choosing Pentium, choosing 486 may help relieve some of these difficulties. Section D: 1995 Data Book In addition to the material listed on the CD-ROM insert, this CD-ROM now includes the 1995 Altera Data Book. The Altera 1995 Data Book requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader to be installed on your hard drive. If you have already installed the latest version of the Acrobat Reader, you do not need to reinstall it. If you have not installed the Acrobat Reader, a copy is provided on the CD-ROM. To install the Acrobat Reader 2.0 for Windows, follow these steps: 1. In the Program Manager Window, choose Run from the File menu. 2. Type :\databook\acrowin\acroread.exe 3. Follow the instructions on your screen. 4. To open the 1995 Data Book (PC version), start the Acrobat Reader, and open the alterapc.pdf file in the PC directory. The alterapc.pdf file can be copied to your hard drive. To install the Acrobat Reader 1.0 for Sun 1. Login as the root user: # su root # 2. Type: # mkdir /cdrom # mount -t hsfs -o ro /dev/sr0/cdrom # cd /cdrom/databook/acrounix/acroread # ./install.rdr 3. Follow the on-screen directions.
